Doggy Day Care

Seen on TV:

Did you know in LA it costs $38/day to send your dog to doggie day care but only costs $31 a day to send your child to a normal day care? And just what is a doggie day care? Well it's a place where pet owners can drop their pooches off for the day just the way working parents drop their children off to day care. At doggie day care, ur dog gets to interact with a whole slew of other dogs from all different races/ethnicities/social and religious backgrounds. There is actually a person there who is paid to stay in the room with them all day and play with the dogs and their toys (FYI the guy they showed whose job was this, spent the day rolling around the ground with the dogs...now what can I say about a grown man rolling around the floor surrounded by barking dogs excited b/cof the camera crew filming them). The dogs are also fed homemade lunches (which I might add look a lot more appetizing than what most children eat at lunch in schools and day cares). These well taken care of dogs are so adapted to their owners doing everything for them, that if by chance one of them got lost or ended up in the "real world" on its own...it likely would not survive.

Interestingly, some pooches actually "fall in love" at the day care...I wonder what happens when they break up? Does the same drama and incestious relationships take place as does with humans who are partof a small enough group where they spend lots of time together and everyone knows everyone else? Apparently, there are also some same sex dog couples at the day care they highlighted.

Lastly, did you know that people spend $9 billion dollars a year on dog food? Now, if just half of that was spent in some desparate third world country like Haiti for the development of social programs, training the workers with job skills, education for all children and on public health care, can you just imagine where that country would be today?

Now I know for pet owners their pets are their pride and joy and that's fine. You should treat any living being with compassion and kindness but $9 bloody billion dollars a year? 100 years ago, the dogs ate whatever was available and they were fine then...they actually now have food for dogs that should "diet", for small dogs, for elderly dogs etc. etc.

This is a wonderful manifestation of the extremely materialistic and superficial culture that has evolved into the western "culture" where nothing is enough and everything is supersized and desired in excess. Aside from the pursuit of material things and meeting a very unrealistic and unnatural standard of beauty (most people in LA look like plastic now), there is not much the western culture has to offer. And sadly, b/c of globalization most of the world is slowly being stripped of the many beautiful cultural and traditional things it had to offer.
